When it comes to MPF schemes, it’s not just about fund performance only. Providers are stepping up and finding creative ways to keep members connected—whether it’s through new tech, better education, or even a few perks to sweeten the deal. But one thing members always care about? Fees.
Fees might seem modest, but managing them well can help your returns quietly grow over time. Most MPF fees cover essentials like investment management, custodians, trustees, and admin costs—basically, the behind-the-scenes work that keeps your fund running smoothly. These fees are reflected as the Fund Expense Ratio (FER), which shows the percentage of the fund’s value used up by fees. And let’s face it, the less you’re paying in fees, the more you get to keep for yourself.
That’s why it’s worth giving a shoutout to Manulife, who’s making some big moves to give back to their members.
Manulife’s Fee Reduction Programme
Starting from February 6, 2026, Manulife has reduced management fees across all 29 of its constituent funds under the Manulife Global Select MPF Scheme. These reductions range from 9% to 22%, benefiting over two million members. For MPF savers, that’s less money going toward fees and more staying in your retirement pot.
But they’re not stopping there. As part of their revamped “Manulife Privileged Rates Plus” programme, they’re rewarding loyal members and encouraging higher contributions with two standout offers:
- Reduced Fees Based on Your Balance: The more you save, the better your rates.
- Bonus Loyalty Rebates: Members can earn rebates every 5 years, with annual rewards kicking in after 20 years or at retirement age (65).
Rebates are calculated monthly and credited annually, with automatic enrollment for the first year. From 2027, members can register during their birthday month to stay rewarded.
Sweetening the Deal with Consolidation
Manulife is also rolling out the Bonus Unit Rebate Programme, designed to reward members who consolidate their MPF accounts with them. Here’s how it works:
- Transfer Benefits and Earn Rebates: Consolidate HK$500,000 or more from other providers to Manulife, and you could snag up to HK$90,000 in rebates.
- Extra Perks for Policyholders or Investment Account Holders: Got a Manulife insurance or investment account? You’ll get an extra 15% rebate on top of the standard one.
- Lucky Draw Fun: Transfers of HK$100,000 or more qualify for a lucky draw, with 500 prizes up for grabs worth a total of HK$900,000.
The promotion runs from February 6, 2026, to April 30, 2026, with successful transfers completed by June 30, 2026.
Why do Members Love to See it
Manulife’s initiatives highlight how MPF providers can go beyond the basics to deliver real value to their members. By reducing fees, rewarding loyalty, and incentivizing account consolidation, they’re helping members maximise their retirement savings and build proactive account management habits.
At the end of the day, it’s all about keeping more of what you’ve earned—and providers like Manulife are showing it’s possible to give members a little extra along the way. It’s a win-win: less cheese to fees, more cheese for you.
