MPF’s record run continues to defy critics

MPF Ratings’ July MPF Performance Survey has now been uploaded.

Key points are as follows:

MPF Ratings’ MPFR All Fund Performance Index is up 1.17% for July and 10.13% year-to-date. The system has now recorded 5 positive return months out of 7 in 2025. (See Table 1)
In absolute dollar terms, July’s investment gain was the equivalent to $16.8bn (or $3,500 per MPF’s 4.79m members) to take year-to-date gains to $132.2bn (or $27,600 per member).
Equity asset classes continue to lead MPF investment returns with July results being led by Hong Kong and China equities, Asian equities and US equities. (Also see Table 1)
Inclusive of contributions, total MPF assets will end July at an all-time record high of around $1.45tr (up $20.3bn from June, and up $158.6bn for year-to-date), and equivalent to an average MPF account balance of $302,400 (up $4,200 from June, and up $33,100 for year-to-date).

Francis Chung (叢川普), Chairman of MPF Ratings Ltd, Hong Kong’s independent provider of MPF research, views and education today announced that MPF average account balances for its 4.79m members exceeded HK$300,000 for the first time ever in July as he discussed MPF’s July performance results.

In addition to breaching the milestone $300,000 mark, the system continues to break all-time asset size records too. With a July investment return of 1.17%, the MPF system recorded its 5th positive monthly 2025 investment return to take year-to-date returns to 10.13%, which together with contributions now sees MPF’s total assets at a record high of $1.45tr.

Record results are great news for MPF members, but disciplined investing is crucial
