Quotes:

On MPF’s declining net inflows

“2021’s annual forecasted net inflows of $46.87bn is the lowest seen since the start of the global Covid pandemic.”

On the reasons for MPF’s ongoing net inflows decline

“MPF’s net inflows decline reflects the general impact COVID has had on Hong Kong.  Businesses have had to reorganize meaning perhaps fewer employed workers, members eligible for early retirement may be doing so, and Hong Kong has also seen historically higher levels of permanent departures, all of which are headwinds to net inflows into the MPF system.”

On confidence in the MPF system

“The decline in net inflows reflects an extraordinary external landscape. The MPF system remains robust and is a highly secure and competitive retirement savings system which provides additional retirement savings for members over the long term.”
